TAKEFUE is the latest addition to our family of Takayama Chasen (高山茶筌) — the traditional bamboo whisk with a history in Japanese tea culture dating back to the 1500s.
Unlike the standard chasen, which has a rounder form and shorter handle, TAKEFUE features a longer handle and a smaller crown. This thoughtful design makes it exceptionally easy to use, allowing you to whisk matcha not only in a traditional chawan (matcha bowl), but also in smaller vessels, even your favourite mug. Perfect for those who enjoy the tea ritual in a more casual or space-conscious setting, without compromising technique.
Every TAKEFUE is handcrafted in the village of Takayama, Nara Prefecture, where chasen-making has been passed down for generations. Each whisk begins as a single piece of locally grown bamboo, carefully split and shaped through an 8-step process performed entirely by hand. The result is not just a tea tool, but a finely tuned instrument of craftsmanship, precision, and beauty.

How to Care for Your Tea Whisk
How to Care for Your Tea Whisk
Before 1st use:
Soak the Chasen gently in warm water for a few minutes, this softens the bamboo and prevents the prongs from snapping.
Daily care:
- Use it gently to ensure longevity - Avoid pressing the chasen too hard against the bottom of the tea bowl, as this may cause the prongs to break
- Do not use a dishwasher or dryer, as sudden changes in temperature or humidity can cause cracking
- After each use, rinse the chasen with water and dry it thoroughly before storing
- Store in a cool, dry place away from high temperatures or direct sunlight
