Mino-yaki, originating in Japan’s historic Mino Province (now Gifu Prefecture), traces its roots to Seto-yaki - one of the country’s Six Ancient Kilns. Its journey began in the 1500s when pottery techniques from Seto were introduced to the region. Over the centuries, Mino-yaki grew into a hub of creativity, giving rise to iconic styles like Shino and Setoguro, and establishing itself as one of Japan’s most prolific and diverse pottery traditions.

This chawan is in half-cylindrical shape,

meaning it has a half-cylindrical shape with straight sides and a flat bottom. Its vertical walls are thoughtfully crafted to contain matcha during whisking, helping to minimise spills and ensure a smooth preparation.

Variations in size, glaze, colour, and texture are natural characteristics that highlight the unique, handcrafted nature of each piece.

How to Care for Your Matcha Bowl

Always wash your Matcha Bowl with water only. Detergent might be absorbed by ceramic which can affect tea flavour.

Dish washer is not recommended, hand-washing is the best to clean a matcha bowl.
