An essential vessel for preparing Matcha and delicate Japanese green teas, the water cooler transforms your daily tea ritual. It serves three vital purposes: gently cooling boiling water to the ideal brewing temperature (70–80°C), allowing for a smoother, more controlled pour, and ensuring a perfectly balanced flavor profile when serving multiple cups.

The Craftsmanship

This SANGIRI Yuzamashi is carefully crafted in Bizen, home to one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns dating back to the 1500s. Renowned for its unglazed finish, Bizen-yaki relies entirely on the earthy qualities of local hiyose clay and the transformative power of the fire.

The cooler is wood-fired at intense temperatures (up to 1300°C) for 10 to 14 days. This slow, demanding process not only produces remarkable durability, but also creates the stunning, natural color transitions and surface patterns known as Sangiri (桟切り). Because each piece is handcrafted by artisans and shaped by the unpredictable nature of the wood kiln, every single cooler is a completely unique work of art.

How To Use

  • To Cool Water: Pour freshly boiled water from your kettle directly into the cooler, and then transfer it into your teapot. Each pour lowers the water temperature by approximately 10 degrees, protecting delicate tea leaves from burning
  • To Balance Flavors: Pour your steeped tea from the teapot into the cooler first, acting as a decanter, before distributing it evenly into individual cups. This ensures every guest experiences the exact same tasting notes and strength

Ideal Pairing: HOGAKE Teacup
