This elegant handmade UTSUTSUGAWA Chawan features a deep charcoal glaze with delicate hand-painting of a white egret - a signature motif from this historic Nagasaki kiln. It originated during the Kansei era (1789–1801) by Sadamon Tanaka, whom adopted iron painting and techniques from Mikawachi and Arita, incorporating delicate brushwork of grasses, flowers, and birds.
This chawan's fluid form and subtle gradients reflect the quiet sophistication of Japanese tea culture. Crafted by skilled artisans of Riza kiln, now in the hands of its 13th generation, each piece carries the serene spirit of Utsutsugawa ware - balanced, minimal, and poetic.
Presented in a signed wooden Tomobako (Wooden box), it makes a meaningful gift or a treasured piece for any tea enthusiast or collector.

How to Care for Your Matcha Bowl
How to Care for Your Matcha Bowl
Always wash your Matcha Bowl with water only. Detergent might be absorbed by ceramic which can affect tea flavour.
Dish washer is not recommended, hand-washing is the best to clean a matcha bowl.
