TSUTA is a rare and profound green tea, meticulously crafted from 1st-flush Yabukita leaves and then aged for at least one year. Inspired by the practices of the Tokugawa shogunate, this traditional style of aging, known as Kuradashi, allows the tea to develop a greater depth and complexity

Through this slow, careful aging process, the fresh, crisp character of the spring tea mellows into a rounder, smoother profile with enhanced umami and a more layered, refined taste. It’s a truly unique tea for those who appreciate the beauty of time.

THE STORY BEHIND TSUTA

  • Pioneering Organic Farm: We source our tea from a family-run farm in Fujieda, Shizuoka, that has been a pioneer of organic farming since the 1970s. It is certified organic under Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS), cultivated using only natural methods
  • The Rare 1st-Flush Harvest: Made exclusively from the very first harvest of the spring season. The young leaves are packed with nutrients and a vibrant character that provides the perfect foundation for aging
  • A Unique Expression of Nature: The effort required to consistently produce high-quality organic tea in such demanding conditions makes these leaves truly precious. With each batch being a unique reflection of the season, TSUTA is nuanced and never exactly the same

FLAVOUR PROFILE

TASTE: Aging turns the sharp, grassy taste into a warm and round, almost woody flavour. It also brings out subtle sweetness and honey-like undertones for a complex and layered finish

HOW TO ENJOY TUSTA

TSUTA's bolder profile makes it an excellent choice for green tea lovers who enjoy a deeper, more profound taste. It is best enjoyed by brewing with slightly hotter water to fully release its complex flavours

  1. Heat Water: Heat up filtered water, cool it down using a water cooler to  around 80°C (Using water that is too hot will make the tea bitter)
  2. Measure Tea: Add 5g (approx. 1-2 teaspoon) of tea leaves per 250ml of water to your teapot
  3. Steep: Steep for around 1 minute for the 1st infusion. For subsequent infusions, extend the time to 1-2 minutes soothing
  4. Pour: Pour the tea into your cup (or back to the water cooler), make sure to get every last drop to prevent the leaves from over-steeping.
  5. Enjoy: It is good to drink on its own or its interesting profile matches amazingly with dark chocolate, creating a delightful and unique tasting experience

STORAGE TIPS

To keep your tea leaves fresh, store them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture and odours. Ensure the bag is tightly sealed, and gently press out as much air as possible before closing it
