Crafted in Tokoname, one of Japan’s Six Ancient Kilns, this back-handle teapot is a masterful blend of tradition and artistry. Made from Kokudei (black clay 黒泥), this exquisite piece features a unique carved pattern known as Tochiri (トチリ), a testament to the potter's exceptional skill.
Handcrafted by the renowned Gyokko Kiln, this teapot is an authentic piece of Japanese pottery, designed for a smooth and controlled tea-brewing experience.
The Artistry Behind the Teapot
- Exceptional Craftsmanship: Handcrafted by the renowned Gyokko Kiln, a family workshop with over 70 years of history. Each teapot is unique, with slight variations in colour, shape, and texture that reflect its artisanal character.
- The Art of Tochiri (トチリ): The body of this teapot features a unique carved pattern achieved by applying a special carving technique while rotating the piece on the wheel.
- The Beauty of Yōhen (窯変): The beautiful color change from bronze to black on the body is a natural occurrence during the firing process in the kiln, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.
- Built-in Mesh Strainer: The teapot features a built-in mesh-shaped clay strainer, showcasing exceptional attention to detail. This filter ensures a clean, smooth pour every time, free of leaves and sediment.
The perfectly balance body to handle ratio allows for a steady grip and precise pouring, giving you full control over your tea. At 160ml, this teapot is the perfect size for personal use or for preparing small, intimate servings. Its Kokudei clay enhances the flavour of your favorite Japanese green teas, such as Sencha, Gyokuro, and Bancha.

How to Care for Your Teapot
How to Care for Your Teapot
To keep your teapot in the best condition, wash it only with water and avoid detergent. Ceramic absorb residues which can affect tea flavour.
Skip the dishwasher - Teapot is very delicate, hand-washing is the best way to prevent it from chip and damage.
Remove tea leaves once cooled and give the teapot a quick rinse to avoid stains and mold. Turn it upside down to dry faster.
