Tamba-yaki Handmade Ceramic Teacup by Shōzō-gama | NAGI

Handmade in Tamba-Sasayama, this yunomi by Shōzō-gama (省三窯) brings a vivid contemporary colour palette to one of Japan’s oldest ceramic traditions.

The lower half is covered in a deep blue glaze that shifts from cobalt to indigo, while the upper section softens into warm ivory. Where the two meet, the colours bleed gently into one another, creating a natural gradation across the surface.

Diagonal carved lines wrap around the body, catching the glaze differently along each ridge and recess. The result is a cup with a strong sense of movement, even within its compact everyday form.

The Artistry Behind the Cup

• Rich Glaze Gradation: Deep blue rises into a softer ivory tone, allowing the glaze to create both contrast and subtle transition across the vessel
