SUGI Bancha is an exceptional green tea crafted from Yabukita leaves grown under the intense summer sun and harvested in autumn. While it undergoes the same steaming, rolling, and drying process as Sencha, its larger, flatter leaves result in a distinct, bolder flavour. With lower caffeine levels and a smooth character, SUGI is the perfect gentle, everyday green tea.
The Story Behind SUGI
- Pioneering Organic Farm: We source our tea from a family-run farm in Fujieda, Shizuoka, that has been a pioneer of organic farming since the 1970s. It is certified organic under Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS), cultivated using only natural methods
- A Harvest of Character: SUGI Bancha is from the late autumn harvest. This gives it a bolder, more robust profile with a higher concentration of catechins
- Pure & Honest: Our teas are grown and processed without any synthetic pesticides or additives. The dedication required to produce high-quality organic tea under such demanding conditions makes these leaves truly rare and special

HOW TO ENJOY SUGI
SUGI Bancha's mellow, low-caffeine profile makes it a gentle and comforting choice, perfect for winding down before sleep or as a refreshing accompaniment to meals
- Heat Water: Heat up filtered water, cool it down using a water cooler to around 80-90°C
- Measure Tea: Add 5g (approx. 1-2 teaspoon) of tea leaves per 250ml of water to your teapot
- Steep: Steep for around 1 minute for the 1st infusion. For subsequent infusions, extend the time to 1-2 minutes
- Pour: Pour the tea into your cup (or back to the water cooler), make sure to get every last drop to prevent the leaves from over-steeping.
