SUGI - Certified Organic Single Cultivar Bancha from Shizuoka
SUGI is a humble yet expressive green tea that captures the gentle essence of autumn. Crafted from autumn-harvest Yabukita leaves grown under the late-summer sun, it carries the aroma of dry leaves and warm earth — mellow, herbal with a soft hint of astringency that lingers like the cool air of early fall.
What Makes SUGI Special?
- A Harvest of Character: Crafted from the autumn flush, when tea leaves mature and develop a bolder, more robust flavour. This later harvest naturally yields a tea higher in catechins and lower in caffeine, creating a gentle yet invigorating brew.
- Pioneering Organic Farm: Grown by a family-run farm in Fujieda, Shizuoka that has led Japan’s organic tea movement since the 1970s. Certified organic under the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS), the tea is cultivated using time-honoured, chemical-free methods that honour the soil and the seasons
- Pure & Honest: Produced without synthetic pesticides or additives, every cup of SUGI reflects the purity of nature and the integrity of craftsmanship
An Everyday Green Tea with Depth
While SUGI follows the same steaming, rolling, and drying process as Sencha, its larger, flatter leaves create a distinct profile — mellow, softly vegetal like the clean air of autumn. Low in caffeine and gentle on the body, it’s the perfect tea for quiet evenings, embodying balance, warmth, and calm.

- Measure Tea: Add 5g (approx. 1-2 teaspoon) of tea leaves per 250ml of water to your teapot
- Steep: Steep for around 1 minute for the 1st infusion. For subsequent infusions, extend the time to 1-2 minutes
- Pour: Pour the tea into your cup (or back to the water cooler), make sure to get every last drop to prevent the leaves from over-steeping.
