Handcrafted by the esteemed Sodeshi-gama kiln (袖師窯) in Shimane Prefecture, this cup is a beautiful expression of the Japanese Mingei (Folk Art) movement. Sodeshi-gama is renowned for creating robust, functional ceramics that bring warmth and artistry to everyday life, and this piece perfectly embodies that philosophy.
MARU features a soft, pale glaze with subtle crackling (kannyu), serving as a canvas for striking, hand-painted motifs. The stacked, circular patterns in deep indigo blue and iron brown are framed by bold vertical lines, giving the piece a rhythmic, traditional charm. Designed with a gently rounded silhouette that rests comfortably in the palms, it transitions to an unglazed foot ring at the base. This exposed section allows you to feel the raw, tactile nature of the local clay, grounding your daily tea ritual in the earth from which it came.
