The history of Banko-yaki stretches back around three hundred years back. Banko is said to come from Rozan Nunami, a trader whose passion was tea and opened a personal kiln specialised in producing teawares. He stamped his own works with the words Banko fueki, which means “Eternally unchanging life”.
This elegant SHIRO cup beautifully blends traditional craftsmanship with a modern aesthetic. It is a kind of "semi-porcelain", falling between the warmtexture of earthware and the high durability of porcelain. The soft white glaze with subtle speckling enhances its natural and organic look , while its high body not only gives it a distinctive profile but also helps to concentrate the aroma, allowing the full fragrance of your tea to be enjoyed with every sip.
Variations in size, glaze, colour, and texture are natural characteristics that highlight the unique, handcrafted nature of each piece.
