This stunning handmade Shigaraki-yaki chawan is finished in a rich deep indigo glaze that shifts gently between midnight blue, cobalt and charcoal as it catches the light. Raw mineral speckles emerge across the surface, adding depth and movement that reveal themselves a little differently with every use.
Crafted in Shigaraki, one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, each bowl is wheel-thrown using mineral-rich clay before being carefully glazed and fired. The contrast between the deep glaze and the exposed clay foot reflects the balance between refinement and the raw beauty that defines Shigaraki ware.
Every firing produces subtle variations in colour, texture and crystalline effects within the glaze. These natural differences are not imperfections, but the signature of handmade craftsmanship, making each chawan completely unique.
