MOMI - Certified Organic Kamairicha (釜炒り茶)
JAS Certified Organic | Toasty & Sweet
Deep in the rugged, cloud-shrouded peaks of Gokase, Miyazaki, our pioneering partner farm crafts a rare treasure that is slowly vanishing from Japan: Kamairicha (釜炒り茶 Pan-Fired Green Tea). While over 99% of Japanese green teas are steamed to halt oxidation, this exceptional leaf is tossed in traditional hot iron pans, a meticulous, ancient technique that coaxes out an entirely different soul of the tea leaf.
Grown with absolute devotion without a single drop of chemical fertilizers or pesticides, this organic Kamairicha brews into a stunning, clear golden liquor. By pan-firing the leaves instead of steaming them, the natural bitterness and heavy astringency typical of green tea melt away. In their place emerges a remarkably smooth, light-bodied cup with a famously sweet, roasted-chestnut aroma (kamaka) that fills the room. It is a deeply grounding, nostalgic brew, crafted by a family that has protected the purity of their mountain soil for over forty years.

What Makes MOMI So Unique?
Today, Kamairicha accounts for less than 1% of all tea production in Japan, making it a true boutique discovery for tea lovers. Unlike standard steamed Sencha, which has a deep green, vegetal, and sometimes astringent profile, the pan-firing artisan process fixes the flavors gently. This creates a beautifully crisp, mellow taste that stays incredibly sweet and smooth, even if you steep it a little longer or use hotter water. It is the ultimate expression of clean, uncompromised mountain terroir.
Why You’ll Love It?
- A Vanishing Artisan Craft: Experience a rare, traditional pan-fired green tea that represents less than 1% of Japan’s total tea harvest, handcrafted in small batches
- Naturally Bitter-Free: The specialized pan-firing process eliminates heavy tannins, resulting in a beautifully smooth, sweet drink completely devoid of harsh bitterness
- 100% Pure & Organic: Grown in the pristine mountain air of Gokase, Miyazaki, certified organic and completely free from synthetics and chemical inputs
- The Grounding "Kamaka" Aroma: Celebrated for its unique, highly fragrant "pan-fired aroma", a comforting bouquet of toasted warmth, sweet mountain air, and subtle nutty notes
