KAEDE - The Rare 1st Harvest Tencha Hojicha

1st Flush | Organically Grown | Roasted Matcha

While most hojicha are made from ground-up stems and late-summer leaves, KAEDE crafted from 1st Flush Tencha, the same shade-grown spring leaves used for our ceremonial matcha. KAEDE offers the satisfying, toasted complexity of a light-roast coffee but with a profound gentleness that calms rather than stimulates.

Why You'll Love KAEDE

  • A Crowd-Pleaser: Its toasty aroma plus the naturally sweet aftertaste makes it  chocolate alike. Because the roasting process naturally lowers the caffeine content, KAEDE is robust enough to replace your afternoon coffee craving, yet gentle enough to sip right before bed
  • 1st Flush Spring Harvest: KAEDE perfectly retains the characteristics of spring leaves - the vibrant & aromatic nature even after roasting
  • Small-Batch Artisanal Roasting: Master roasting technique transforms the grassy notes of the green leaf into deep layers of burnt toffee, roasted chestnuts & dark chocolate, while other hojicha in the market can taste flat or overburn

The Craftsmanship Behind KAEDE

Lovingly produced by a 4th generation family farm in Kyoto, KAEDA is grown by our partner farm in Wazuka using natural organic farming practices. While this specific batch is not carrying the JAS certification, it is grown on the same land and held to the same chemical-free standards as our certified ceremonial teas.

Every batch is milled and packed immediately on-site after grounding, ensuring that the aroma & freshness are captured inside every tin.

STORAGE TIPS

To preserve matcha’s vibrant color and flavour, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For optimal quality, enjoy within 1-2 months of opening since colour and aroma naturally fade over time. Refrigeration is not recommended as odours and condensation can compromise quality. A stable, dry environment is the best way to keep your matcha fresh
