Roasted 1st Flush Uji Tencha

KAEDA is not your average Hojicha. While most Hojicha powders are made from lower-grade leaves or stems, KAEDA is crafted from the same high-quality, shade-grown Tencha leaves used for our ceremonial grade matcha. This premium base gives KAEDA a richer, more complex flavour and a noticeably smoother finish, setting it apart from its category.

Lovingly grown and processed by a 4th-generation family tea farm in Kyoto, each batch is roasted, milled and packed onsite to preserve freshness and depth of character. The traditional roasting process transforms the grassy notes of green tea into a warm, nutty brew with warm and satisfying toasty aroma - which one sees similarity on the taste of coffee or chai.

What makes KAEDA different?

  • Premium Tencha Base: Unlike traditional Hojicha, which is made from mature leaves and stems, KAEDA uses only the best quality 1st flush Tencha leaves, shade-grown like our ceremonial matcha
  • Traditional Roasting: Our careful, traditional roasting process is what gives KAEDA its signature character. It transforms the tea's natural grassy notes into a warm, nutty, and slightly caramelised brew with a satisfyingly low bitterness and a comforting aroma
  • Naturally Low in Caffeine: Because of the roasting process, KAEDA contains less caffeine than other green teas. This makes it a perfect afternoon or evening choice and a comforting alternative to coffee without the jitters
  • Pure & Honest: Our Hojicha is grown without pesticides, additives, or artificial flavouring. It is roasted and milled onsite in small batches for peak flavour and packaged immediately to ensure you receive the freshest possible product

FLAVOUR PROFILE

AROMA: Warm and inviting, with rich notes of roasted chestnuts, toasted grains, and caramelised sugar

TASTE: Smooth and round, with a full-bodied character. Expect a deep, satisfying taste of burnt toffee and a touch of dark chocolate, leading to a long, sweet aftertaste


HOW TO ENJOY IT?

KAEDA is incredibly versatile and makes an excellent alternative to coffee

For a Soothing Evening Warm Brew

  1. Whisk: Sift 2g of KAEDA powder into a mug or bowl
  2. Pour: Add 80ml of 80°C hot water and whisk to dissolve all the powder
  3. Enjoy: Savour the warm, toasty aroma and low-caffeine comfort

For a Creamy Hojicha Latte

  1. Make a Paste: Sift 2g of KAEDA powder into the matcha bowl, add 50ml of 80°C hot water, and whisk until a smooth paste forms
  2. Add Milk: Top with your preferred steamed milk or milk alternative
  3. Sweeten (Optional): Add a drizzle of maple syrup or honey to complement the toasty notes


STORAGE TIPS

To preserve matcha’s vibrant color and flavour, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For optimal quality, enjoy within 1-2 months of opening since colour and aroma naturally fade over time. Refrigeration is not recommended as odours and condensation can compromise quality. A stable, dry environment is the best way to keep your matcha fresh

Super easy to fix a quick cuppa with no worries of sharing it with my teenage daughters knowing it’s low caffeine. Really enjoy the flavour and looking forward to use it for a cold drink in the summer or maybe in baking. Fast delivery and reasonably priced. Cute packaging too.
