ICHOU - Certified Organic Single Cultivar Rpasted Sencha from Shizuoka
ICHŌU is a rare expression of harmony, where the freshness of green tea meets the warmth of a gentle roast. Crafted from premium 1st flush Yabukita leaves, it bridges the brightness of Sencha with the soothing depth of roasted tea, creating a cup that’s both comforting and refined.
What Makes ICHŌU Special
- A Distinctive Taste Experience: Unlike Hōjicha, which is made from later harvest leaves, ICHŌU begins with delicate first-flush Sencha. These young spring leaves are carefully steamed, then lightly roasted to reveal a rounder body, & the nutty sweetness, while preserving the fresh vibrancy of green tea
- Pioneering Organic Origins: Grown on a family-run farm in Fujieda, Shizuoka, one of Japan’s green tea heartlands, where organic farming has been practiced since the 1970s. Certified organic under the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS), each leaf is cultivated through natural, sustainable methods that respect both soil and season
- Nature’s Seasonal Expression: Without artificial controls, each harvest reflects the rhythm of nature, subtle shifts in aroma, sweetness, and roast depth that make every batch of ICHŌ beautifully unique
The Craftsmanship Behind ICHŌU
The gentle yet precise roasting process transforms the tea’s grassy brightness into layers of toasted nuts, caramelised warmth, & a clean, lingering finish. The result is a sophisticated roasted Sencha that’s lighter and more nuanced than Hōjicha, yet richer and more grounded than traditional green tea.
Wellness in Every Cup
Naturally rich in antioxidants, ICHŌU embodies balance and calm. Its warm, toasty aroma and smooth, grounding flavour make it the perfect tea for moments of stillness, a quiet companion for unwinding in the afternoon or finding peace at the end of day.

With its refreshing, mellow finish, ICHOU is an ideal choice for a daily ritual or an after-meal tea. Its warm, comforting notes make it a gentle delight for your palate and your stomach.
- Heat Water: Heat up filtered water, cool it down using a water cooler to around 80°C (Using water that is too hot will make the tea bitter)
- Measure Tea: Add 5g (approx. 1-2 teaspoon) of tea leaves per 250ml of water to your teapot
- Steep: Steep for around 1 minute for the 1st infusion. For subsequent infusions, extend the time to 1-2 minutes
- Pour: Pour the tea into your cup (or back to the water cooler), make sure to get every last drop to prevent the leaves from over-steeping.
- Enjoy: Its toasty flavour pairs beautifully with savoury meals or on its own
