Handcrafted in Hagi, Yamaguchi, this teacup reflects the soft, expressive character that has made Hagi ware one of Japan’s most loved ceramic traditions.
The cup is finished in a beautiful pastel glaze that shifts gently between pale lavender, powder blue and soft grey. The colour gathers more richly around the rim and upper surface, while the lower body reveals the warmth and texture of the clay beneath. The result feels light, airy and almost watercolour-like, with subtle variations that make each piece completely individual.
Its gently flared rim and rounded body sit comfortably in the hand, while the carved foot adds a small sculptural detail underneath. The balance between soft colour, tactile clay and simple form makes this an easy piece to enjoy every day, especially with Sencha, Gyokuro or lighter Japanese teas.
Like traditional Hagi ware, the beauty of the cup is not about perfect uniformity. Small variations in glaze, tone and surface are part of its character, shaped by the interaction of clay, glaze and firing.

About Hagi-yaki (萩焼)
Hagi-yaki is one of Japan’s most celebrated ceramic traditions, known for its soft clay, muted glazes and natural surface variations. Rather than aiming for perfect symmetry, Hagi ware embraces the marks of the maker and the unpredictability of the kiln.
Over time, the porous clay and glaze can subtly change with use, allowing the vessel to develop more character as it becomes part of your tea ritual.
