This is a side-handled Japanese Kyusu (急須 Teapot), handcrafted by the renowned Gyokko Kiln in Tokoname. With over 70 years of history, this family-run workshop has been creating exquisite teapots since its founding by the first generation.
This teapot features a wide base, allowing tea leaves to unfurl fully and release their rich flavours. Its striking metal-like colour is a result of Yōhen (窯変), a fire kiln transformation, and the Matsugawa (松皮 Pine bark) texture on the body gives each piece a unique character.
The elongated spout, the built-in ceramic filter and the ergonomic side handle ensure smooth, precise pouring, making it perfect for brewing Japanese teas like sencha or gyokuro.
Tokoname has a pottery tradition dating back over 800 years to the Kamakura Period. It is one of Japan's six ancient kiln sites, known for its high-quality clay and unique craftsmanship.

How to Care for Your Teapot
How to Care for Your Teapot
To keep your teapot in great shape, wash it with water only - no detergent! Ceramic teapots absorb residues, which can affect tea flavour.
Remove tea leaves once cooled and give the teapot a quick rinse to avoid stains. Turn it upside down to dry faster and prevent mold.
Skip the dishwasher - handwashing is the best way to preserve its beauty and functionality.
