Experience the soul of Japanese pottery with our ARAIGAKI Hagi-yaki Teacup. Handcrafted in the historic kilns of Hagi, Yamaguchi Prefecture, this piece embodies the the aesthetics of finding profound beauty in simplicity, nature, and the passage of time.
The Spirit of Hagi-yaki
For over 400 years, Hagi-yaki has been prized by tea masters for its soft, earthy texture and its "living" quality. Unlike mass-produced ceramics, it is intentionally porous. As you use this cup, the tea tannins will deepen the colour of the cup and giving the cup a unique patina. Your cup will literally evolve with every tea session, becoming a personal record of your tea journey.
Design & Texture
- The Glaze: A serene, milky-white glaze flows over the body, revealing subtle blushes of peach and soft grey beneath the surface
- The Form: Hand-thrown with a gentle taper, the cup features rhythmic horizontal ridges that offer a tactile, grounding grip for the hands
- The Foot: The unglazed kodai (foot) showcases the raw, "daido" clay, provides a striking contrast between the refined glaze and the rustic earth
